It is something I have always believed in, and I don’t think anyone has really doubted it. After all, exercise is something our body is designed to do. We can run, climb, lift, swim etc incredibly well because our body has evolved with the need to exercise. Weather it has been to find food, move location or build a shelter, movement has been a big part of our species ‘lives’.

If we do not exercise, our body gets less efficient and preforming tasks, and this includes thinking! This is something which has been highlighted recently in the Journal of Psychological Medicine, where participants who regularly exercised consistently scored higher in tests on memory, attention and learning.

Ok, so I understand that no one wants to go for a jog when it is cold and dark, but the good news is – its getting warmer and lighter! Now is the best time to start developing some exercise habits! Begin to get into a routine of exercising regularly now, and you will love the benefits so much, that when winter comes around again you won’t care about the cold!

Not only is exercise great for your mind, it is also great for your body! As I said earlier, we are designed to exercise. It gets our blood pumping, joints moving and muscles working! There is no point in eating carefully if you do no exercise during the week, being healthy is just as much about what you eat as what you do. Get the running shoes out!
